A garage door opener is an essential need to those that own a home or a condo. For the most part people have them installed and don’t seek to further keep up with the maintenance so that there are little to do repairs later on down the line.
There are many things that can go wrong with a garage door opener after using it for so long. The door can get jammed, or something can simply break or malfunction.
You may have seen homes that have unstable frames on their garages or crooked doors. This is because the garage doors are not well maintained. Sometimes over time the frame can become deformed after using it too much so it might need to be fixed or replaced.
Having the right tools on hand can allow you to quickly fix a door or frame that needs to be repaired. Make sure you have the right screws/bolts if needed. A hardware store will typically supply the ones that you need. Sometimes the issue is with the garage door opener itself.
You might have a key that is not working properly because you have pressed it so many times, and you may have to replace it. It could be a circuit in the opener that needs to be fixed. Any major type of defect can cause a problem with the garage door opener.
Below are some steps that you can take when it comes to repairing a garage door opener that has a malfunction.
The gear being broken on your garage door is something that is a common issue that many people face. Generally this occurs from using the door a lot and the door aging over time. When regular maintenance is not kept up with on this door then things can start to go wrong.
The first thing that you will want to do is uninstall the electric supply to keep yourself from possibly getting electrocuted during the process of fixing it. Close the door and take the pulley off so that there are no injury accidents while you are fixing it.
Next, open the retainer lip of the pulley and take out the sprocket. Take the chain and belt of the sprocket out; remove the covers on the ends of the gear, retaining clip, and RPM sensor. You also need to take the motor out.
The motor is held together by some nuts, and these need to be removed next. Now you can replace the gear and then put everything back together.
